Hameed Ibrahim Ali: Customs Chief

The Senate on Wednesday vowed to issue a warrant of arrest that will compel the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Col. Hameed Ali (retd), to appear before the lawmakers on Thursday.

This was the decision of the Senate after Ali again failed to honour Senate’s invitation, citing bereavement.

The Customs CG had in a letter to the President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki, informed that the controversial policy on car import tariff policy has been put on hold.

Ali was invited by the Senate to explain his reasons for the planned collection of import duties on old vehicles by the Customs.

But after the Customs’ boss letter was read at plenary on Wednesday, the said the reason given by Ali for not honouring their invitation was unacceptable.

The Senators described Ali’s action as an affront and a slight on the Senate.
