An 18-year-old girl, Patience Okonkwo who allegedly inflicted injuries with a razor on the face of one Chikodo Oti, her neighbour, was on Thursday arraigned in an Apapa Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

Okonkwo, a resident of Olodi Apapa area of Lagos, is standing trial on a two-count charge of grievous harm and breach of peace.

She denied committing the offences, while the Magistrate, Mr M.A. Etti granted her bail, in the sum of N100,000 with one surety.

The magistrate ordered that the surety must be gainfully employed and should show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

Earlier the prosecutor, Sgt. Kokoye Olusegun, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Jan.30 at her residence.

Kokoye said that the teenager unlawfully assaulted the complainant by beating her and using razor to make scars on her face.

He said: “The complainant said that she was escorting her friend, when she mistakenly pushed the accused.

“Oti said that she was about to apologise to Okonkwo, when the accused pushed her back.

“The complainant explained that as a result of Okonkwo’s behaviour, they started fighting and the accused brought out a razor blade from her purse and used it to make scars on her face.”

The prosecutor said that the complainant reported the case to the police and the accused was arrested for further questioning.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 166 and 243 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that Section 243 prescribes a seven-year jail term for grievous harm.

The case was adjourned till March 30 for further hearing.
