Driver docked for alleged rape

A 30-year-old commercial driver, Olawale Odunuga, who allegedly defiled his neighbour’s 9-year-old daughter, was on Thursday arraigned in an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

The accused, who resides at No. 43, Saint Finbas Road, Bariga a Lagos suburb, is facing a charge of rape.

The prosecutor, Insp. Clifford Ogu, told the court that the accused committed the offence in December 2016 at the accused residence.

Ogu said the accused called his victim to his room with the pretext of sending her on an errand.

“The accused asked her to come into the room and take the money on the table to help him buy bathing soap, but he shut the door and raped her.

“He threatened to kill her if she tell anyone; but she told her mother and the accused was arrested,” he said.

The offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Taiwo Akanni, granted the accused bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till March 15 for mention.
