Senate confirms Onnoghen as Chief Justice of Nigeria

The Senate on Wednesday confirmed the appointment of Justice Walter Onnoghen as the Chief Justice of Nigeria.

Onnoghen was confirmed after a 45 minutes screening during which the lawmakers asked him various questions on how he intends to improve the Nigerian judiciary.

Onnoghen assured the lawmakers that he will ensure independence of the judiciary under his stewardship and was confirmed after a voice vote.

President of the Senate, Senator Bukola Saraki, congratulated the new CJN after his appointment was confirmed by the senators through a voice vote.

The confirmation process was witnessed by Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River state, and Ita Enag, adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari .
