Brig.-Gen. Sulaiman Zakari, the Director- General, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has appealed to Gombe State Government to provide a permanent orientation camp for the corps.

Zakari made the appeal at the temporary camp located at Government Technical College, Amada in Akko Local Government Area of the state when he paid a visit on Sunday.

“I am appealing to the Gombe State Government to provide a permanent orientation camp for us.

“This is because providing a camp is the constitutional provision of state governments not NYSC.”

Earlier, Mr Tobias Ibe, the state Coordinator said that in the last one year, NYSC had been using a temporary camp in Gombe, adding that the situation posed many challenges.

“The students of this school are now on break, pending the time we will close the camp they will resume.

“And each time we come to the camp, we must effect some repairs because we were not the only ones using the camp,” Ibe said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the NYSC Permanent Orientation camp, Malam sidi in Gombe was handed over to the Federal Government to serve as camp for the rehabilitation of 800 repentant Book Haram insurgents.
