FCT police nab killers of policeman

The FCT police command said on Thursday that it had arrested six suspected killers of a police corporal, who was murdered on Dec. 29, 2016.

The command gave the list of the suspects as: Ismaila Abdulwaheed, 28; Saliu Saka, 22; Sunday Odo, 21; John Paul, 17; Ifeanyi Peter, 19 and John Paul, 19.

The FCT Police Commissioner, Mr Muhammad Mustafa, who showed the suspects to newsmen, said that they were arrested on Jan. 14 by operatives of the command.

He said that the syndicate stabbed the deceased, who boarded a vehicle, on the chest with a dagger after robbing him of two phones, a GOTV decoder, cash and other valuables.

Mustafa said that the syndicate, which used unpainted taxi for its operations shuttled between Berger, Airport road or Area 1 and Gwagwalada in search of victims.

“They are notorious for inflicting serious body injuries on their victims and even killing them in the process.

“They usually take advantage of the evening rush hours, when people are rushing to get to their homes, to lure their unsuspecting victims,’’ he said.

The commissioner said that the suspects had confessed to the crime and would be charged to court on conclusion of investigation,’’ he said.

Mustafa said items recovered from them included, one blue colour golf car marked KWL 421 TC, one Nokia handset, belonging to the deceased policeman and three knives.

In a related development, Mustafa said the police had arrested some other armed robbery suspects at the Banex Junction, Wuse II, on Jan. 22.

According to him, the suspects are: Felix Tarnongo of Dutse-Alhaji, Ibrahim Yusuf, Mustafa Tohoru and Samuel Obasi of Mabushi village.

He said that items also recovered from them included, two locally made pistols, one Barreta pistol and one cartridge.

The commissioner said that operatives of the command also arrested other suspects for various crimes as well as recovered several items.

He restated the command’s preparedness to deploy personnel and everything within its powers to curb the excesses of criminals and ensure they face the law.

“I assure all FCT residents that the FCT police under my command will remain committed to their safety and protection”.
He attributed the achievements recorded by the command so far largely to the support from the public. (NAN)
