At least 52 people were killed in Nigerian Air Force accidental bombing of on internally displaced persons, IDP, camp on Tuesday, MSF, otherwise known as Doctors Without Borders said in a statement issued in Borno.

MSF also said 102 people were injured in the incident which occurred in Rann camp in Borno State on Tuesday morning.

The Nigerian Air Force has also confirmed the accidental air strike by its fighter jet at Rann in Kala Balge area of Borno State.

While  available  information  is  sketchy,   the  Theatre Commander OPERATION LAFIYA DOLE is taking appropriate steps to avail uswith details of the incident.  The loss occasioned by this unfortunate incident is deeply regretted.

The MSF also said it is currently providing first aid to the 120 injured persons in Rann.

Jean-Clément Cabrol, MSF’s Director of Operations, said, “This large-scale attack on vulnerable people who have already fled from extreme violence is shocking and unacceptable.”

“The safety of civilians must be respected. We are urgently calling on all parties to ensure the facilitation of medical evacuations by air or road for survivors who are in need of emergency care.”

The Nigerian Army and the Borno State government have not provided the casualty figure from the accidental bombing.
