The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN reports that for allegedly stealing a woman’s phone valued at N30, 000 from her car, two men — Segun Mathew and Sule Yussuf — were on Friday in Ibadan brought before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court.

They were, however, admitted to a bail of N60, 000.

The duo of Matthew, 27, and Yussuf, 28, is facing a two-count offence of conspiracy and stealing.

Prosecutor Salewa Hammed told the court that the accused had on Jan. 4 at about 11.30 a.m. stole a phone worth N30,000 belonging to the complainant, Mrs Omotola Fawibe, at Total Garden Roundabout, Ibadan.

According to him, the woman, a staff of the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, was trying to park her Toyota Camry car with registration no. EPE 259 BC in front of StanbicIBTC Bank, Total Garden branch when the men stole the phone.

“As the security guard at the bank was looking for a space for her to park her car, one of the men screamed alerting her that one of the rear tyres had problem to distract her.

“In the process, Yusuf picked her phone which she placed on the passenger’s seat and disappeared with his accomplice.

“Passersby responded to her distress call and apprehended the two accused persons and handed them over to the Police.”

The offences contravened Sections 516 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Oyo State 2000.

Both pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Abiona Richard, granted each of the accused bail in the sum of N30,000 with two sureties each in like sum.

Richard said one of the sureties must be a blood relation of the accused, while the second surety should be gainfully employed.

She adjourned the case to Feb.8 for hearing. (NAN)
