Jenkins Alumona, the Proprietor, Flykyte Productions, the organisers of Gotv Boxing Night shows, says boxing fans in Nigeria will be treated to more scintillating fights in the coming year.

Alumona made the assertion while reviewing the organisation’s activities in 2016 in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the sidelines of the boxing fiesta.

He said that the success recorded so far had raised their confidence in organising future shows and described the just-concluded 10^th edition as the “best action-packed event to crown 2016’’.

“We are glad to hold the event to commensurate with the Boxing Day, Dec. 26, which made all boxing lovers to troop to watch the fiesta.

“We are highly encouraged by the success story so far as we look forward with determination to host the 11^th edition in February 2017,’’ Alumona said.

NAN reports that six boxing electrifying fights held the fans at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium spell bound.

Nigeria’s Stanley “Edo Boy” Eribo defeated Isaach Sowah from Ghana to emerge the new Africa Boxing Union Welterweight Champion.

Eribo worked tirelessly to dominate his opponent in grueling and entertaining 12 rounds bout that kept fans praising his every well landed punch and every move.

He went home with the Best Boxer of the night award and with the cash prize of N1.5 million and the Mojisola Ogunsanya trophy.

Eribo told NAN that he was glad to do the nation proud and that he could not have achieved his aim but for the support he had from fans in the hall.

“I am happy for my victory; I worked hard because my opponent is also a good boxer.

“I am happy for what I achieved, I could not have done it without my fans who came to support me,’’ Eribo said.

In the national Lightweight title Challenge, Otto Joseph beat Fatai Nurudeen in the fourth round through technical knockout.

In the national Featherweight Challenge, Waidi Skoro knocked out Dare Oyewole in the round four of their clash.

In other bouts that took place Kabiru Towolawi knocked out Emmanuel Igwe in round two, while Rilwan Babatunde also defeated Sikiru Shogbesan in a unanimous decision by the judges. (NAN)
