The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN reports that a 39-year-old woman, Rose John, was on Thursday

arraigned in a Gudu Upper Area Court, Abuja, for alleged forgery and being in possession of two Nigerian Army identity cards.

John of Bmoko village, Bwari pleaded not guilty to the four-count charge bordering on forgery, using as genuine forged documents and unlawful possession of illegal documents.

The defence counsel, Miss Chioma Nwachukwu, thereafter, applied for bail on behalf of her client, to which the prosecutor, Mr John Ijagbemi, opposed.

“Granting the defendant bail at this instance will jeopardise the process and possibility of filing in other charges to be made; besides, she is an ex-convict,” he said.

Ijagbemi had earlier told the court that the defendant was arrested by military personnel on duty on Dec. 2.

“She was arrested wearing a full camouflage army uniform with the rank of major.

“During a search on her, two forged Nigerian Army identity cards, bearing Gumel J. Jumai and 12 passport photographs of her in army uniform were recovered from her.

“Others items recovered include a forged copy of notice of approval for the registration of Shamo and Sons Ltd, a forged certificate of Nursing/Midwifery and a B.Sc. degree from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria,” he said.

Ijagbemi also said that she had been “using the same documents to cheat innocent Nigerians and putting their lives in danger.”

He said that investigations revealed that she had illegally set up a clinic, “El-Sona Clinic and Maternity” in Bwari Area Council and had operated same as a medical doctor.

The prosecutor said the offence was contrary to Sections 363, 364, 366 and 319(A) of the Penal Code.

The Judge, Mr Umar Kagarko, said “due to ill health of the defendant,” admitted her to bail in the sum of N500,000.

Kagarko also ordered the defendant to produce a reasonable and reliable surety, who must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.

The judge adjourned hearing till Feb. 2, 2017.
