Wizkid: in trouble in Uganda

Wizkid, Nigerian hip hop star currently resting  in the United States based on doctor advice has been dragged to court in Uganda for missing a concert for which he has already received payment

Face TV, the organizer of the concert which held on Saturday, December 3 at Lugogo Cricket Oval in Kampala, said in court documents that between 29th August 2016 and 29th November 2016 it paid Mr. Sunday Are, Wizkid’s manager the full performance fee of US$60,000, a brokerage fee of US$5,000 and US$3,000 being per diem for the days they were going to stay in Uganda.

The documents were filed in the Chief Magistrates Court of Buganda.

This is in addition to expenses in booking and re-booking flights, hotel, venue, advertising and promotions for the concert estimated at over $300,000 .

It was also gathered that over 25,000 Ugandans had paid for tickets, hoping to see Wizkid perform at the concert.

In the criminal complaints lodged at the Buganda court by FaceTV, the charges against Wizkid and the possible jail terms if he is found guilty include: Obtaining money by false pretences, which carries a maximum sentence of five years,  Cheating, which carries three years,  Conspiracy to defraud which also carries a maximum of three years.

Alternatively, the singer and his manager could be slammed with a minimum fine of N150m.

The singer and his manager, Sunday Are have been summoned to answer the charges on or before January 16, 2017.

It will be recalled that the singer had on December announced that he is cancelling all his engagements for the year due to doctor’s advice.

‘I’ve been on the road for 2 years touring and doing what I love without a break,’ he said. ‘And now it’s all catching up on me.’

The engagement include the musician’s homecoming concert  planned to take place at Eko Convention Centre on December 30,  a show at the New Afrika Shrine on January 1, 2017 and the concert in Uganda.

Are however told THENET.NG that they are discussing with the Ugandans.
