Six former agitators of the Niger Delta region that are beneficiaries of the Federal Government’s amnesty programme have graduated from Benson Idahosa University (BIU), Benin, with First Class degrees.
The six ex-militants were among 169 beneficiaries of the amnesty programme that graduated from the University in 2015 and 2016 academic session.
Vice Chancellor of BIU, Professor Ernest Izevbigie, who disclosed this at a press briefing on Wednesday, disclosed that a total of 626 amnesty beneficiaries were admitted into the University, adding that the ex-militants were trained in line with the University’s policy to provide skills for them to survive in the world.
The Vice Chancellor who hinted that the ex-militants who bagged First Class degrees would be employed by the University for them to train other young people, explained that employing the First Class graduates was in line with the University’s policy of retention to be Graduate Assistants in the institution.
He said plans were on by the institution to celebrate the success of the Federal Government amnesty programme in the Niger Delta, adding that Governors of the nine Oil Producing states and other stakeholders would be present at the event.
