Women Federation Cup: RSG hosts Rivers Angels


Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has charged the Rivers Angels Football Club of Port Harcourt to win this year’s Women’s League to further entrench the state on the sports map of the country.

Speaking at a state dinner he hosted alongside his wife , Justice Eberechi Suzzette Nyesom-Wike in honour of Rivers Angels for winning the 2016 Women’s Federation Cup at the Government House , Port Harcourt on Friday night , the governor said that lifting the Women’s League would be a crowning glory of the superlative efforts of the team this season.

He congratulated the team for being worthy ambassadors of the state by responding positively to the investments made in sports by his administration .

He assured the Rivers Angels of the support of his administration , pointing out that sports play a vital role in youth empowerment and development .

The governor noted that since he assumed office last year, funding of sports has been on first line charge to ensure that athletes are encouraged to put in their best for the state.

For winning the 2016 Women’s Federation Cup , the governor announced a N300, 000 reward for each player and N500, 000 reward for each member of the management team.

He also announced the donation of a Toyota Coaster Bus for the Supporters Club to enable them travel alongside Rivers Angels in comfort .

Earlier , State Commissioner for Sports, Mr Boma Iyaye noted that the dwindling fortunes of Rivers Angels were reversed immediately Governor Wike settled outstanding eight months salaries owed players and management upon assumption of office.

Mr Iyaye said the support of the state government has been instrumental to the resurgence of the Rivers Angels . He said the players and management of the club are happy with the Wike administration for its investment in sports.
