Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has called for a peaceful rerun election stated for December 10 because the Rivers is state the only state that is not represented at the Senate .

He however vowed to deal ruthlessly with criminals who commit crime.

Wike made a particular reference to criminals who regularly rob commuters and worshippers at Emmanuel Anglican Church located at the busy Rumuokoro roundabout,in Obio-Akpor local Government of the state.

Governor Wike made the declaration while responding to a remark made by Venerable Wisdom Ihunwo the Vicar of Emmanuel Anglican Church, in Rumuokoro during the 2016 annual adult harvest on Sunday, November 20. He warned parents to keep their children in check because security agents go after the criminals regardless of the political party they belonged.

“I have received several security reports about the criminal activities in the Rumuokoro and I can assure you that something would be done about it. I will not reveal that now. Some of the criminals may be our brothers and sons. It does not matter where they belong whoever is caught would be arrested and face the law.”

Wike who attended the harvest with leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state, Secretary to the State Government, Kenneth Kobani, Dr Abiye Sekibo and some members of the state executive council also assured that the perennial traffic congestion by Rumuokoro roundabout, promised to build a park and market where the traders would be relocated to reduce the traffic congestion.

In addition to the relocation of the traders, Wike said he would confer with the Commisser for Works on what can be done to ease the traffic congestion at the roundabout.

On the demand by Vicar of the Church that previous administrations in state had made promises to Church and were not fulfilled like promise of a Church bus, an elevator and pipe organ for the seven-storey church building, Governor Wike said “It is wrong for people to make promises or pledge in house of God and not fulfill them. You could fail to redeem promises to man but not to God.”

Wike directed the Church to come to Government House today at 3pm to collect a brand new bus for the Church. For the Church project which is a two-storey building for Primary School, he donated N10 mimillion in support, while directing the Church to work out the cost of the elevator and and pipe organ and forward the bill for Government to see the much it can assist.

During the sermon, the Preacher Rev.Cannon Iyke Egbuonu warned leaders not be like Ahab in the Old Testament who turned away from Almighty due to a wrong wife, Jezebel he married that led him to erect an Altar for Baal. The consequence was a famine and recession.

He warned that leaders or men who erect or demonic altars instead of altars of the Almighty God invite evil on the land.
