Nigerian military authorities have appointed a new commander for ‘Operation Delta Safe,’ the code name of its operation targeted at militants and oil thieves in the oil producing Niger Delta.
Colonel Kingsley Umoh, Acting Director, Defence Information said in a statement that the change becomes necessary in order to inject new capability to contain the prevailing security threats and provide adequate much needed stability in the region. 
The new commander, Rear Admiral Apochi Ogabu Suleiman will replace Rear Admiral Joseph Osa Okojie who has now been reassigned.  
 
Until his appointment, Rear Admiral Suleiman was the Director Development at the Defence Headquarters.  Before that, he was the Flag Officer Commanding, Central Naval Command.
 
His appointment is with immediate effect.
