Kidnapped Ekiti INEC Secretary regains freedom

The kidnapped Administrative Secretary of the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) in Ekiti State, Dr Muslim Omoleke, has been released.

The News Agency of Nigeria, (NAN) reports that Omoleke was released by his abductors on Friday night.

The INEC scribe was kidnapped by unidentified people at Iwaraja community, near Ilesa in Osun State, on Nov.3.

The Public Relations Officer of INEC, EKiti, Alhaji Taiwo Gbadegesin confirmed the release to NAN in a telephone interview in Ado-Ekiti.

“We are grateful to you all, the press, the security agents and other sympathisers for your efforts in the quick release of Dr Muslim Omoleke.

“He was released by his abductors late on Friday night.

“The pressmen and security did well to enhance his release from the hands of the bandits,” Gbadegesin said.

The PRO also thanked the police command of Osun, Ekiti and Ondo State for their prompt response.

“Our sincere gratitude goes to the Commissioner of Police for Osun, CP Adeoye Fimihan and Commissioner of Police EKiti command, Etop James.”

The Osun Police Command had on Friday evening announced the rescue of Omoleke.

The  Osun  Police Public Relation Offocer, SP Folashade Odoro, confirmed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Osogbo on Friday.

Odoro said Omoleke was rescued on Friday evening  from his abductors and  had been reunited with his family.

The PPRO said  that Omoleke  was in good condition.

He said the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Fimihan Adeoye, led the rescue operation.

According to him, the  police will intensify efforts to apprehend the kidnappers and bring them to justice.

The PPRO did  not however give detailed information about how Omoleke was freed, but said the command would soon issue a statement on the incident. (NAN)
