Human rights group said 11 children were among the twenty six people killed on Wednesday in airstrikes near a school complex in a rebel-held village in north-western Syria.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights added in Damascus that at least six air raids by suspected Russian jets hit Haas village in the Idlib province.
Rami Abdel-Rahman, the Observatory Head, confirmed that the dead children were schoolchildren and the planes were believed to be Russian.
“Activists posted pictures of bodies of children and schoolbags covered with blood allegedly as a result of the bombing.
“In recent months, Idlib, a hub for rebels, has been the target of air bombardment,’’ he said.
The Observatory said that 81 civilians, including Wednesday’s toll, had been killed in airstrikes mounted by the Syrian regime and allied Russia in Idlib over a week now.
“The dead included 21 children.
Idlib is controlled by an alliance of opposition groups and hard line jihadists including Jabhat Fatah al-Sham, an al-Qaeda-linked group previously known as the al-Nusra Front.
