An appeal has gone to President Muhammadu Buhari to consider the Western Senatorial District of Kogi State in his search for a ministerial nominee for the State. The President of Okun Peoples Front (OPF), Elder Ben Ayo Abereoran and the Secretary Barrister Ola Anthony Odana made the appeal yesterday during a press conference in Lokoja.
According to the group, going by federal character representation, fairness, equity and social justice, the Western Senatorial District deserves the ministerial slot, for every section or ethnic group in the state ought to be treated equally and be given a share in the polity.
“In the present circumstance, the Central Senatorial District produced the governor while the Eastern Senatorial District produced the deputy, and Chief of Staff. In the spirit of fairness, it is commendable that the Central Senatorial District is not pushing for the Ministerial slot,” the group noted.
The group stated further that after the 2015 Presidential Election, Captain Idris Wada from the Eastern Senatorial District was still the governor of Kogi State, the Ministerial slot, again went to same Eastern District and the rest of them kept quiet, not because they were timid or stupid, “but we all thought that at the very end, the buck stops on the president’s table. He has the prerogative to determine whoever he wants to work with”.
The group lamented that it was unfortunate that Barrister James Ocholi SAN died in a tragic motor accident stressing that with respect to the replacement of late Ocholi in the Federal cabinet, President Muhammadu Buhari was at liberty to pick whoever he wants to,work with and from whichever part of Kogi State.
The group therefore added that it was necessary to correct the impression being created that the ministerial position for the state in the federal cabinet is only for an ethnic group or a particular senatorial district in the state.
End.
