It’s was  real drama on Wednesday as an automobile technician, popularly known as ‘mechanic’ was barely stopped from stripping himself completely naked when he was stopped by officers of Federal Roads Safety Corps and some police officers on operation at a  junction near the Nigeria Immigration headquarters junction on the Nnamdi Azike express way, Abuja.

The FRSC operatives, from the Kuje Unit Command, had arrested and stopped many vehicles and when they saw the Mechanic coming in the brown Honda car which was obviously under repairs, they also flagged him down.

But the technician had barely come out of the vehicle before he started pleading with the FRSC operatives on why he should not be delayed.

He explained to the officers that he’s a mechanic and the owner of the car has been on hospital admission for weeks after an accident with it. The ‘mechanic’ added that he’s just driving the car to his workshop for repairs.

The explanation fell on deaf ears as the FRSC insisted on arresting him. Thus, the technician decided to strip right on the expressway and in front of everyone in protest.  He was not alone. Other motorists also protested their arrest during the operation which one FRSC officer described as the first major one to be carried out on the highway that leads from Kuje to Nnamdi Azikwe express way. This however did not stopped the technician and the others arrested from being booked by the road safety officers.

I. Adanwo, the FRSC officer who led the operation however tried to stop the media from covering it.  (Photos and story by FEMI IPAYE)
