Eyitayo Jegede, former Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Ondo State, on Monday, has become the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the Ondo State governorship election.

Jegede, won the party’s primary after he scored 760 votes to defeat Hon Saka Lawal, his only rival, who scored 22 votes.

Jegede had on July 23 resigned from his appointment in preparation to contest the governorship election by November 2016.

Chairman of the PDP Primary Election Committee for Ondo State and the Governor of Bayelsa State, Seriake Dickson, announced the results of the primaries at the International Cultural and Event Centre (The Dome), Akure, on Monday.

The primary election, which started with the accreditation of voters, took off at exactly 8:00am and was duly monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and it attracted local and international observers, the press, security apparatuses in the State.

Eyitayo Jegede’s aspiration is presently creating disquiet within the party, as he is seen as Governor Olusegun Mimiko’s anointed candidate.

Some aspirants under the PDP had protested the seeming imposition, saying it might result in the party failing to win the governorship election.

Mr. Jegede, like Gov Mimiko is from Akure in the Ondo Central senatorial district.
