Ahead of the all important semifinal clash against Germany on Wednesday, Nigerian Minister of Youth and Sports, Barrister Solomon Dalung has charged the Dream Team to emulate the set of ’96 who surprised the world by winning gold.

In a special message to the Samson Siasia led U-23 team on the eve of their battle against Germany, Dalung said having surmounted all obstacles to get to where they are now, Nigerians are now banking on them for a podium finish.

The Minister was quick to point out that despite the junior German machines’ demolition by Portugal 4-0 in their quarter final match, the team are not invincible.

“We have seen what you can do as a team. Football in Nigeria is not just a sport but a religion and we know our people’s attachment to football. The world has seen what you can do and this has also endeared Brazilian fans to your style of play. I believe that if you come to the match with your A game against Germany, we will triumph and book a place in the final,” Dalung said.

He philosophised that with 100 percent support from the federal government and the Ministry of Youths and Sports, having paid all allowances for the duration of the games, the team now have enough motivation to go for gold.

Dalung concluded by reiterating that the President Muhammadu Buhari led government will leave nothing to chance to ensure that athletes are rewarded for their efforts before, during and after any tournament.
