The parents of one of the abducted Chibok Schoolgirls on Sunday identified their daughter in a new video released by a faction of the Boko Haram sect.

Mrs Esther Yakubu and her husband, Kawo Yakubu told reporters that their daughter, Dorcas Yakubu, was one of the girls in the new video at a meeting by members of the Bring Back Our Girls group at the Unity Fountain in Abuja.

“When I heard her voice, I realised she is my daughter,” Kanu Yakubu told reporters in Abuja.

The girl was identified as Maida Yakubu was seen in the video describing an air strike by the Nigerian armed forces.

She spoke in the Chibok dialect.

Bring Back Our Girls spokesman Abubakar Abdullahi earlier on Sunday said at least one of the girls had been recognised by a member of the movement.

The number of girls identified from the video has now risen significantly, he said.

“We’re certain that these are the Chibok girls,” Abdullahi told AFP.

“We recognise up to 10 from the video,” Abdullahi said, adding that he is waiting for confirmation from the Nigerian government and parents of the girls before releasing any more names.

At the meeting, members of the group said the present administration had failed Nigerians by not fulfilling its promise of rescuing the Chibok girls.

Also, the mother of the girl identified her as Dorcas and one of the 218 Chibok Girls abducted by the Boko Haram sect in April 14, 2014, though she was referred to as Maida Yakubu in the video.

According to Channels television, the Bring Back our Girls campaign group said there were only three choices available – government’s negotiation to rescue the girls, government use military operations to rescue the girls or a combination of both.

The Nigerian government had declared its readiness to negotiate with the group but said it would not negotiate with a group that do not have any known representative.
