The Benin Traditional Council has lifted the prohibition of burial ceremonies by residents of the kingdom.
The Iyase of Benin, Chief Sam Igbe, announced this while briefing newsmen in Benin on Monday
According to him, “His Royal Highness, the Crown Prince, is aware of the plight of our people who have had to endure the delay in their obligations to bury their departed loved ones.
“He is with them in their anxieties and has graciously granted permission, until further notice, for them to carry out the necessary burial ceremonies.”
He added that information regarding the pending coronation would be published in due course.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), recalls that burial ceremonies were prohibited in Benin Kingdom since April when the death of the Oba of Benin, Oba Erediauwa, was announced. (NAN)
