An octogenarian, Nosakhare Osadolor, has been detained in prison custody for allegedly promoting what was termed ‘native war,” by an Ogbesan Magistrate Court, in Benin, Edo State.
Osadolor, a juju priest popularly known as Afro, had priviously spent seven years in prison custody over alleged murder, narrowly escaped the hangman noose after a Court of Appeal sitting in Benin, upturned the judgment of an Edo State High Court which sentenced him to death.
Other remanded with the octogenerian were Osaro Agho, Ogbemudia Omoruyi, Kelvin Osa Osakue and Osadolor Omoruyi.
They were alleged to have promoted native war by wilful destruction of properties in Aduwawa community.
Properties allegedly destroyed by the suspects included Aduwawa Community Secretariat valued at N7 million and a perimeter fencing of a mosque valued at N1.5 million.
They were alleged to have also threatened to kill one Edogiawerie Ozo.
Both offences are punishable under section 516 and 42 of the Criminal Code.
The Presiding Magistrate, Taye Omoruyi, who declined jurisdiction on the matter, refused to take their plea.
Omoruyi who ordered the case file be duplicated and forwarded to the Department of Public Prosecution for legal advice, adjourned the case to August 8 for mentioning. ?
