The Deputy High Commissioner of Sierra Leone in Nigeria, Major General Nelson Williams (Rtd), who was kidnapped along the Abuja-Kaduna road on Friday, has been freed and reunited with his family, and members of his High Commission, Donald Anwunah,  spokesperson for the Nigerian Police Force said in a statement on Tuesday evening.

The Police spokesperson said the diplomat was released at about 4pm along the Abuja-Kaduna road, the same highway he was abducted last Friday.

Anwunah, a Deputy Commissioner of Police said in the statement that William’s release is as a result of credible intelligence and technical support aided by intense Police patrol activities on the land and in the air.

He however did not say whether a ransom which the abductors of the diplomat demanded was paid.

But the Force spokesperson added in the statement that the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris, assures members of the Diplomatic Corp and other foreign nationals of their safety and security in Nigeria.

The Sierra-Leonean Diplomat was on his way from Abuja to Jaji in Kaduna State for the graduation ceremony of Senior Course at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC) when he was abducted last Friday.
