Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State Wednesday charged members of the National Youth Service Corps to key into the positive change driven by the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Oshiomhole who gave the charge at the official closing ceremony of the orientation of Batch ‘A’ 2016 Stream II Corps members, held at the NYSC Orientation Camp, in Okada, Ovia North East Local Government Area of the State, urged them to shun corruption and nepotism which he said have ravaged the country.
Represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr. Priestley Idiagbonya, the Governor said as agents of change, the strength of national cohesion is the vibrancy of the youths and their ability to explore areas that needed growth and development in their host communities and to try through hard-work, dedication, loyalty, discipline and commitment to improving on the lives of the people they come in contact with noting that, that is the only way the objectives and set goals of the NYSC scheme could be achieved.
While imploring the Corps members to integrate themselves with their host communities and respect their culture, Oshiomhole, noted that the effective realization of the scheme will not only promote unity but will also quicken the real integration amongst Nigerians and effect the most meaningful development of the country.
He therefore urged them to work towards achieving excellence by contributing to the growth of their host communities especially through their Community Development Service, CDS which at the end of the service, might qualify them for the State Honours Awards.
“Let me assure you of the Government’s support for all the NYSC programmes in the state. In turn, we expect you to undertake some developmental projects in rural areas, which in no doubt, encourage the spirit of self-help and patriotism amongst your host communities,” Oshiomhole said.
A total number of 1, 961Corps members participated in the official closing ceremony of Batch ‘A’ 2016 Stream II exercise and have been dispatch to serve in their respective places of primary assignments, PPA in the State.
