Three people have died and 14 others injured in a ghastly motor accident around Berger area of Lagos, Southwest Nigeria.

The accident occurred at about 5:36am on Thursday by Conoil Filling Station towards the Tollgate.

According to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, three people were confirmed dead in the accident.

General Manager, LASEMA, Michael Akindele said the agency received an alert via the 767/112 emergency numbers of Lagos State of an accident involving an LT commercial bus with registration number KRD 326 XG and an articulated truck, without a registration number, along Lagos Ibadan expressway, inward toll gate by Conoil Filling Station on Thursday at about 5.36 am.

“This prompted immediate activation of the Emergency Response Team, ERT of LASEMA and other emergency responders which includes Lagos State Ambulance Services, Lagos State Fire Service, Nigeria Police Force, LASTMA and the FRSC to the scene of accident,” he said.

He said preminary investigation carried out by the ERT at the scene of the incident revealed that the incident was as a result of reckless driving by the truck driver, which eventually collided with the LT bus, thereby veering off the road, leading to the accident.

He disclosed that nine passengers sustained serious injuries, while five others sustained minor injuries and were immediately rushed down to the trauma center by the Federal Road Safety Corp, FRSC and LASAMBUS.

“Three passengers were also trapped and are confirmed dead and were extricated by the LASEMA Emergency Response Team with the use of the light duty equipment. The dead victims were two adult male and one adult female.

“A total number of 17 passengers were said to be on board of the LT bus, while the truck driver was also taken to the trauma centre as a result of shock,” he said.

Akindele advised motorist to avoid reckless driving and also ensure driving within the appropriate speed limit to prevent road traffic accident in the State.
