Garba Shehu:

The Nigerian presidency said on Sunday that the list of  looters of national the treasury and the amount recovered from them so far in pursuit of anti corruption initiative of President Muhammadu Buhari will be released on Wednesday or Thursday this week.

Information about those who have looted public funds and details of recoveries made from them were unarguably the most anticipated information from President Buhari’s one year anniversary broadcast made on Sunday morning.

The President had earlier promised to release the much sought after information in the national broadcast he will make to mark the one year anniversary of his administration.

But Nigerians were disappointed as the President failed to fulfill the promise in the one year anniversary national broadcast.

Rather, the President said the list will be released later by the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.

But Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President said in a series of tweets on Sunday evening that the Information Minister will release the details of the recovered loot later in the week.

According to him, the Information Minister will obtain records from the Central Bank of Nigeria on the actual status with regards to frozen sums in banks assets and assets held wherever they are.

He added that the President had also said the information should be updated periodically. Garba added that the “minister (of Information and Culture) should be ready with this when work resumes, possibly Wednesday or Thursday.”

Garba said the president has asked them to update the information periodically and that
the minister should be ready with this when work resumes, possibly Wednesday or Thursday.

The Information minister also confirmed that he would indeed release the details of recovered looted funds later in the week while speaking on a television programme on Sunday evening.

He however said he may not mention the names of those from whom the funds were recovered for legal reasons.
