The nomination list for the 2016 BET Awards is out and Drake, the ‘one dance’ rapper tops the list with nine nominations in the categories for “Best Collaboration”, “Best Male Hip-Hop”, “Best Video” and more.
He is followed by Beyoncé and Rihanna, who tie with five nominations.
Adele receives her first nomination in the Best Female R&B/Pop Artist category.
In the category for the “Best International Act: Africa” category are AKA (South Africa), Black Coffee (South Africa), Cassper Nyovest (South Africa), Diamond Platnumz (Tanzania), Mzvee (Ghana), Serge Beynaud (Cote D’ivoire), Wizkid (Nigeria) and Yemi Alade (Nigeria).
The BET Awards honour achievements in music, movies, television and sports.
The nominations are selected by BET’s Voting Academy, which is comprised of fans and an esteemed group of entertainment professionals in the fields of television, film, music, social media, digital marketing, sports journalism, public relations, and the creative arts.
This year’s ceremony will air on Sunday 26 June from inside the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles.
