A Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos today sentenced Raymond Omatseye, a former Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), to 120 years imprisonment.
He was charged by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a 24-count charge bordering on bid rigging and contract splitting, valued at N1.5 billion. Originally, he was docked for a 27-count charge, but he was exonerated on three. The court, therefore, based its judgement on 24 counts.
However, each count will attract five years, with all of them running concurrently. This means that he will spend only five years behind bars.
According to trial judge, Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia, the prosecutor, Mr. Godwin Obla, “proved his case beyond reasonable doubt”.
