With 65 per cent of the votes cast in Democratic Primary in Kentucky counted, Senator Bernie Sanders and Senator Hillary Clinton, the former secretary of state are in a very tight race, too close to call.
Sanders was tipped to win both Kentucky and Oregon on Tuesday night, but the votes rolling out of Kentucky may not be what he expected.
With 58 per cent of the votes counted, Sanders narrowly led with 121,613 votes to Hillary’s 120, 637 votes. This translates to 46.8% for Sanders and 46.4% for Hillary.
But with 63 per cent counted, Hillary took a temporary lead, only for Sanders to take the lead, with more votes counted.
Even if Sanders maintains the lead, both he and Hillary will share the 55 delegates up for grabs. And it will still make his ambition to catch up with the former New York Senator, very difficult to achieve.
Hillary has already garnered 1716 in pledged delegates to Sanders 1433. She also leads in super delegates, given her an unassailable lead of 2240 delegates, to Sander’s . She needs 143 more to reach the 2383 mark to clinch nomination.
