Villa drag down Newcastle, Sunderland escape

A look of Disappointment

It was a contrasting experience for relegation strugglers,  Newcastle and Sunderland today. Both teams needed vital three  points to escape and it was expected that with Sunderland facing an inconsistent defending champions Chelsea, they were not going to make it.

But on the contrary it was Newcastle that faced bottom of the league, Aston Villa that failed to live up to expectation. The match ended goalless.

Benitez: no less melancholic

Sunderland, however, came from behind to upset formerly almighty Chelsea 3-2 and earning the maximum three points to soar above Newcastle into  safety.

Sunderland now have 35 points with two matches to go, with Everton and Watford, while Newcastle have 34 points, with one match remaining at home with Tottenham Hotspurs, the runner up to champions Leicester.
