A Lagos Magistrate Court sitting at Igbosere,Lagos state south west Nigeria has sentenced a 22-year-old housekeeper, Kennedy George, to five years imprisonment for stealing his employer’s jewellery and cash worth N6.3million.
George, who resides with his employer, was first arraigned before the Court on June 19, 2015, on a three-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail in the sum of N250, 000 bail with two sureties in like sum.
However, during trial, the Prosecutor, Corporal Cyriacus Osuji called two witnesses. Osuji told the court that George and others at large committed the offences between February 6, 2015 and June 2015.
He said that the convict stole a cash sum of N300, 000 and assorted gold jewelry worth N6 million, properties of his boss. The offences contravened Sections 285 (7) and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011.
However, the convict at the trial admitted stealing his boss’s ATM card to withdraw some of the money but said he was not the only one that spent the money.
