US says Boko Haram threat still serious, praises Nigeria

The United States said today that the Boko Haram terrorists pose s serious threat to Nigeria’s security, despite the seeming progress made by Nigeria in containing them

In a statement by the White House today, the US government acknowledged Nigeria’s progress in combating Boko Haram, adding that the United States has assisted Nigerian authorities working to secure the release of schoolgirls kidnapped by the militants.

The statement did not spell out the specific things done with respect to the latter.

“The threat still remains and it is quite serious, and it is why the United States continues to be committed to supporting them as they counter that threat,” White House spokesman Josh Earnest told reporters at a daily press briefing.
