Abiodun Onafuye/ Abeokuta
All is now set for the conduct of referendum in five of the newly created Local Council Development Areas in Ogun State.
The five LCDA’s are: Afon in Imeko Afon LGA and Sango/Ijoko from Ado-Odo/Ota LGA, both from Ogun West Senatorial District.
Others are Abeokuta North East with capital at Ita-Iyalode from Abeokuta North local government and Coker/Ibogun from Ifo local government. These are from Ogun Central Senatorial District.
The last one is Ifesowapo,which was carved out from the present Odogbolu local government area of Ogun state with Imodi Imosan picked as the capital.
This is from Ogun State East Senatorial District of the State.
The Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) is carrying out the referendum..
The five were created by the present administration of Senator Ibikunle Amosun and added to the already created 32 LCDA’s by the administration of Chief Olusegun Osoba in 2002.
The State House of Assembly had received a letter from the State governor requesting them to approve the creation of the 37 LCDA’s in the state.
Ogun Assembly had during its last plenary directed the State Electoral body to conduct the referendum within two weeks and ask the Transition Chairmen of those areas to send the resolution report to it.
