Lagos police boss warns over rising domestic crimes

The Lagos State police commissioner, Mr Fatai Owoseni has raised alarm over the increasing  rate of cultism and crimes committed by drivers and housemaids  in the  State.

Cp Owoseni stated this on Wednesday when he paraded  25 suspects  arrested for various crimes, including robbery, car and motor cycle snatching .

He said the police were  doing their  best to prevent crimes  and that the incidents  have drastically reduced.

However, he expressed concern over rising domestic crimes and cultism.

Owoseni warned residents to mind who they employ as drivers and house maid as investigations have revealed that they are working for criminal gangs.

He said cultism is on the increase in Lagos Island, Ikorodu, Mushin, Ajah among others.

He revealed that in the first  three months of this year, the police arrested  754 suspects,   494 of whom  were charged to court.  About 298 were convicted.

He said from the total number of arrests, 260 were screened and released after investigation while 145 are awaiting trial .

He also said the police recovered 27 guns and 64 live ammunition,  33 vehicles, 255 motor cycles  during the period in review.

Owoseni also said among the arrested suspects were  those who specialize in robbing patients and hospitals.

Some of the suspects confessed to committing the crimes.
