The Super Falcons were on Friday forced to a 1-1 draw in the first leg match of their 2016 Africa Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) final qualifying round fixture.
Playing at the Stade Demba Diop in the Senegalese capital of Dakar, the reigning African champions created a host of opportunities to dominate early proceedings.
Substitute Chioma Wogu, about a minute after coming on for injured Desire Oparanozie, shot Nigeria into the lead just before half time.
The Teranga Lionnesses, winners over Guinea in the previous round, then mounted pressure in the second half and duly got the equaliser after seven minutes.
The Nigerian senior women team raised their game thereafter, bringing on Osarenoma Igbinovia for Ngozi Okobi in the 58th minute with hopes of taking another lead.
But the hosts held on to ensure a respectable result in front of their fans.
The return leg will take place at the Abuja National Stadium on Tuesday from 4 p.m.
Winners over the fixture’s two matches will advance to October’s AWCON scheduled for Cameroon.
The Falcons are seven-times winners of the competition which is now in its 10th edition, with Equatorial Guinea winners of the other two editions.
