Chelsea appear to want to make a strong showing in the home run of the season’s English Premier League, brushing aside under performing and bottom of the league, Aston Villa 4-0, a victory that shot them to 9th on the league table, ahead of Liverpool.
Both clubs now share same 44 points, although Chelsea have goals advantage.
And Liverpool also still have 2 matches on hand. But they are playing later today at Anfield against runner up on the table, Tottenham Hotspur.
Chelsea made a light work of Aston Villa, whose coach Remi Garde was sacked during the week, banging in two goals in the first half, with ruben Loftus-Cheek scoring on the 26th minute. Just before the half time, Alexander Pato increased the goal tally to two.
At resumption of play, Pedro Rodriguez registered a brace within 15 minutes, bringing the goal haul to four.
There was no chance for the poor Aston Villa to recover as they were even reduced to 10 men after Alex Hutton bagged a red card, after the second yellow card within eight minutes.
