Since there were ghost workers, ghost teachers, there could be phantom schools as well.

In  Kwara state,  government has commenced verification of schools across the state in its on-going authentication of workers and pensioners, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Communication, has said.

This is contained in a statement issued by the media aide, Dr Muideen Akorede on Thursday in Ilorin.

He said that the exercise which began on Wednesday was a follow up to the completion of the first phase, which involved use of Bank Verification Numbers (BVN) to verify workers and pensioners.

Akorede said the exercises were being conducted by the State Committee on Personnel Database Development, headed by the Governor with Secretary to the State Government as Alternate Chairman.

He added that the verification of schools’ location across the State would end on Friday, April 2, 2016.

Akorede said verification exercise of workers and pensioners in the 16 local government area would begin on Monday, April 4.

He advised pensioners to appear for the verification between May 5 and 13, while all staff that missed their turn will have a chance to undergo the screening on May 16.

Akorede said the verification has been scheduled to hold between May 17 and 20 for the staff of Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

The governor’s media aide said the verification was designed to give the government accurate picture of the state and local government councils’ payrolls.

Akorede added that it would ensure that only those properly employed receive salaries and pensions as and when due.
