Black Day on Lagos Bourse: NB, Dangote, Lafarge lose N215b

Trading on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) resumed after the Easter break on a negative note with the market capitalisation dropping by N215 billion amid huge price losses by blue chips.

The market capitalisation, which opened at N8.909 trillion, shed N215 billion or 2.41 per cent to close at N8.694 trillion.

Also, the All-Share Index lost 622.62 points or 2.41 per cent to close at 25,277.29 against 25,899.91 posted on Thursday.

The Nigerian Breweries topped the price losers’ table with a loss of N5.87 to close at N111.83 per share.

Lafarge Africa came second with a loss of N3.95 to close at N77, while Dangote Cement dipped by N1.95 to close at N162.05 per share.

Unilever lost N1.42 to close at N29.50, while Ashaka Cement declined by N1.20 to close at N22.80 per share.

Conversely, Total led the price gainers’ chart chalking up N6.49 to close at N146.50 per share.

PZ Cussons garnered N1.11 to close at N23.90, Presco improved by 35k to close at N34.60 per share.

Dangote Sugar appreciated by 28k to close at N5.98, while International Breweries improved by 20k to close at N19 per share.

FCMB Group drove the activity chart, accounting for 60.20 million shares valued at N46.84 million.

It was trailed by GTBank with 34.71 million shares worth N503.18 million, while UBA sold 32.62 million shares valued at N122.01 million.

Unity Kapital Insurance traded 22.46 million shares worth N11.23 million, while FBN Holdings exchanged 21.72 million shares valued at N70.66 million.

In all, investors exchanged 282.70 million shares valued at N1.34 billion in 3,225 deals.

This was in contrast to the 397.05 million shares worth N3.28 billion traded in 3,742 deals on Thursday.
