The Belgian federal prosecutor said an explosive device, chemicals and an Islamic State (IS) flag were found at an address raided by police in the Brussels district of Schaerbeek.

Belgian Foreign Minister, Didier Reynders, said on Wednesday in Brussels that this was part of a series of house searches following the Brussels bombings.#Brusselsattacks

“Investigators discovered the items, including an explosive device containing nails at a property near Schaerbeek railway station.

Reynders said that the investigation into who carried out the attacks is ongoing.

Meanwhile, the police have issued an appeal for information to identify a man suspected of being involved in the Brussels airport attack.

It said the man appeared on video surveillance at the airport, alongside two men suspected of being the suicide bombers.

Belgian Prime Minister, Charles Michel, had on Tuesday evening declared a three-day period of national mourning, following the bombings perpetrated on Tuesday morning.

“This is the most tragic attack that Belgium has ever seen,” said the head of the Belgian Government.

“We are determined to do everything possible to safeguard our freedom.

“Our freedom was struck in the heart this morning in Brussels, as it has been before in Paris, London and Madrid,’’ he said.

Michel confirmed that the terror alert level 4 remained in place.

A new assessment by Belgium’s Co-ordinating Body for Threat Analysis, OCAM, will be carried out on Wednesday morning. (Xinhua/NAN)
