Minority faction of Kogi House defies Reps again

A minority faction of the Kogi State House of Assembly today briefly defied the resolutions of both houses of the National Assembly, as seven members loyal to  Umar Imam, convened on Tuesday.

The House of Representatives to ensure peace and order has already taken over the House’s function,  and shut the House, a position that was endorsed by the Senate last week.

The National Assembly stepped in following the protracted leadership crisis rocking the state assembly.

The Senate also ordered the Inspector General of Police to enforce its order on the closure of the assembly complex.

But today, the factional speaker, Imam, took his seat at exactly 12noon, and quickly commenced proceedings.

He however noted that the house has not formed a quorum and asked that members present allow for others to take their seats before proceeding.

Having waited for a brief moment, without quorum, he adjourned sitting till Thursday, March 24.

He said: “Gentlemen, we have waited for our members who have been travelling around Abuja to come, and therefore adjourn till 24th of March.”
