For the second time in two weeks, the Minister of Environment, Mrs Amina Muhammed in company of Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Amnesty,Brig-General Paul Boroh have visited polluted sites in Ogoniland.
The team were led on a guided tour by Comrade Celestine Akpobari, the National Coordinator of Ogoni Solidarity Forum to polluted Sites in Goi and Bodo Communities.
Akpobari ,while reacting to the visit of the Minister to the polluted sites in Ogoniland twice within 14 days of her last visit said it was clear indication more than ever that President Buhari would be visiting Ogoniland sooner than anticipated.
According to Akpobari: “The Minister told Ogoni people today in Bori today that after briefing the President on Ogoniland and the outcome of the stakeholders meeting, he asked her to go back Ogoni to look at the sites where he will choose to launch the clean up. She said if not for Mr President’s official engagements outside the country, I would have given you my word when Mr President would be in Ogoniland after the elections. But let us look at before April 10. It would nit pass April 10, Mr President will be in Ogoniland”.
The the clean up of polluted sites in Ogoniland was recommended by the United Nations Environmental Programme,UNEP report, which was submitted to former President Goodluck Jonathan on 4 August,2011, But he failed to implement the report.
