Enugu Rangers visit Abia Warriors in better form than their hosts in Sunday’s Nigeria Professional Football League outing.
This fixture is the second derby of the season after last Sunday’s Lagos epic clash between Ikorodu United and MFM FC which ended in a goalless draw.
Despite an opening season defeat to Kano Pillars, Rangers have impressively garnered points to sit atop the NPFL log.
Kennedy Boboye’s men remain the only unbeaten side this season after five games. They have picked nine points including home win against El-Kanemi Warriors and away win and draw at Heartland and Plateau United respectively.
While the Enugu based outfit who tops the NPFL log will be eager to end the clinical record of their neighbours and hosts. Imama Amapakabo has recorded three wins this season – all against northern sides Plateau United, Tornadoes and Wikki Tourists and picked draw away to Warri Wolves.
Aside been favoured on head to head rating, the visitors hold huge advantage been undefeated in the all four meetings against high-flying Umuahia based outfit.
Abia Warriors’ Uche Ihuarulam insists his side will do all possible to bring down their visitors in Umuahia.
“We are training well and we are all confident that Rangers will fall on Sunday,” he toldGoal.
“They will fall. Rangers are on top of the table, but we don’t fear them at all. We want the maximum points and nothing else,” he said.
But Enugu Rangers midfielder Christian Madu is confident his side will yet again deny their hosts Abia Warriors of home victory.
“We are in a strong position. So we know the momentum is with us,” he said.
“The games are coming thick and fast, but I’m sure we can keep the momentum going and keep getting the results.
“Every game is important in the Nigeria Professional Football League. It’s obviously vital to get off to a good start and that’s what we have done so far.
“Abia Warriors drew 1-1 against Plateau United in Jos so it will be interesting to play them in a couple of days’ time, but we’ll be playing with confidence.”
Abia Warriors are currently five places behind leaders Enugu Rangers ahead of the match at the Umuahia Township Stadium on Sunday despite only seperated by a point.
The match will kick off at 4 pm.
