The University of Osun on Wednesday installed Mrs Folorunso Alakija as the first female Chancellor in Nigeria’s public universities.

Alakija, a business mogul, was installed as the Chancellor of the University during the 4th and 5th convocation ceremony in Osogbo.

In his speech at the occasion, Gov. Rafiu Aregbesola described Alakija as “a virtuous woman of substance’’ who deserved the honour.

He urged Alakija to bring her global exposure and connections to bear on the ivory tower and make it better.

In her acceptance speech, Alakija expressed gratitude to God and the government of Osun for finding her worthy of the honour.

“Every success requires focus and consistency; women needed to be proactive and participate actively in all human endeavours.

“Women are the real pillars of the society and foremost agents of change,’’ she said, and promised to donate substantially to the development of the university to enhance its growth.

The state deputy governor, Mrs Titilayo Tomori, the former governor of the state, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola were among the dignitaries who graced the occasion.
