Afro-pop star and Sony/BMG Record new signee, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has said that he owes no one any apologies  by his regular flaunting of his expensive jewelries and automobiles on social media especially on Snapchat.

He said he did not mean  to oppress anyone.

The music star, who has been receiving flak from some fans for excessive show-off, said he was always on the social media to show off his acquisitions just to appreciate himself for working so hard and finding  it convenient to buy those luxury items from his own earnings from music.

 ”I am not doing this to oppress anybody. I’m only happy that I can walk into any stores anywhere in the world and spend $30,000 at a go off my music. That’s just it. And this is money that I make in Africa and not in America,” Davido told TheNEWS/PMNEWS on Thursday at a brief thank you party for select journalists hosted by BHM Group on his behalf.

 According to the pop star, most times when he entered stores overseas, he always had to explain to some inquisitive shop owners who usually ask him what he does for a living.

 “Some would ask me if I am a basketball player? I said to them ‘No, I am an African and a musician.’ But the truth is that I love good life and I have to live it. That’s the beauty of those things. I am not set out to oppress anybody. It’s all about living a good life and showing it to my fans,” he added.

In recent times, 23 year- old Davido has been active on the social media flaunting his acquisitions.

Some days ago, the hit maker with the moniker ‘Omo Baba Olowo’ took to his Snapchat timeline to announce his latest toy of a $320,000 White Ferrari 458 Sport car. He was also quoted in a recent interview bragging about his customised Rolex wrist watch which he said could buy dozens of cars.

The HKN Records boss also announced on the social media a gift of $12,000 Rolex watch for each member of his team.

Meanwhile, at the thank you party to celebrate Davido’s recent unprecedented Sony Music deal, the singer explained the nature of the deal which he said allows him creative and business control especially in Africa.

“I spent almost a year going back and forth until this deal was actually completed. I wanted to make sure that I retained complete control over my work and that the terms of the deal were good for me. Now that this is done, I have several projects lined up. My album will be dropping later this year and we will be releasing a single this month. So expect bigger things,” he explained.

Also speaking at the party, Ayeni Adekunle, the chief host and CEO, BHM Group described Davido as a friend of the house and one of Nigerians’ favourite musicians.

“We are proud to celebrate his (Davido) achievements, and he is particular about the invaluable support he continues to enjoy from the media. BHM has a strong passion for entertainment and entrepreneurship and we will continue to identify with leading Nigerians working to showcase us in amazing ways,” Adekunle said.

On Thursday 21 January, Davido signed a $1million (N300million) global deal with Sony Music Entertainment at their headquarters in New York, United States.

The pop sensation inked the mega deal making him first ever Africa music act to sign a record deal with the global music brand.

The deal will also help him create, distribute and market his music at world class level.
