The National Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has described as false reports that the party congratulated Senator David Mark, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in Saturday’s Benue South Senatorial rerun election.
“The APC has not issued any congratulatory message on the Benue South Senatorial rerun election”, party secretary, Mai Mala Buni said.
The “congratulatory message” purportedly obtained from a twitter handle, “@APCNigeria” did not emanate from the party. The purported twitter message itself is not credited to any APC official.
“The general public is advised to ignore the false message.
“The APC reiterates that only the National Chairman and the National Secretary officially speaks for the party”.
David Mark, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party was declared winner of the election this morning, beating APC candidate Daniel Onjeh.
Onjeh is yet to accept defeat, with his agent arguing that the election was inconclusive with over 29,000 votes being cancelled by INEC. The margin of victory by Mark is 12,571 votes.
