Brigadier Ramat Murtala Muhammed, Nigeria’s most regarded military leader was assassinated 40 years ago in Lagos, by gunmen belonging to a coup plotting gang led by Dimka. Murtala, as fondly called by countrymen, remains in the minds of Nigerians. A memorial lecture was held in his memory in Abuja today.
