Abia tussle: 100 lawyers in battle for Ikpeazu, Otti at Supreme Court

Nigeria’s the Supreme Court has begun hearing of the appeal by Gov.Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State against the nullification of his election by the Enugu Division of Court of Appeal. 

The seven man panel of the apex court began hearing the appeal after disposing off the appeal of Akwa Ibom on which judgment is also expected to be delivered later today.   

The election of the Abia State governor in the April 2015 polls was nullified based on a petition by Alex Otti, the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA candidate in the election. 

Over 100 lawyers are appearing for the two parties.

Chief Wole Olanipekun is the lead counsel for Gov. Ikpeazu while Chief Akin Olujimi is leading the argument for the APGA gubernatorial candidate. 

The apex court may deliver judgment today after hearing of the appeal.
