Supreme Court sweeps out Anambra senators

Senator Andy Uba

The Supreme Court has done a complete sweep of the remaining two senators of the Peoples Democratic Party elected last April in Anambra State.

In a ruling Friday  on a pre-election dispute, the court nullified the elections of the senator representing Anambra South, Andy Uba and his Anambra Central counterpart, Stella Oduah

Andy will be replaced by   his brother Chris Uba, while Annie Okonkwo  will replace Oduah, who was Nigeria’s former aviation minister. An Appeal court had earlier sacked  the third Senator from the state, Uche Ekwunife.

The Supreme Court, in its ruling, also re-affirmed the chairmanship of Ejike Oguebego as the authentic State Chairman of the PDP in Anambra State, declaring the list of candidates for various elective positions submitted by the other faction illegal.

Mr Oguebego had sued on behalf of his executives, including Mr Chris Uba, asking the court  to determine the authentic executives of the party and the candidates who should have represented the party in the senatorial elections.
